I recently had the opportunity to appear on Dr. Howard Farran’s podcast. For those of you who don’t know, Dr. Farran is the founder of Dentaltown and a pioneer of utilizing the internet to bring dentists together in a collaborative fashion.
We spoke about a myriad of topics ranging from new graduates to practice overhead.
Controlling practice overhead is a topic that I am passionate about. I have seen so many practices that flounder because their overhead is out of control. You might be the best dentist in town with all the latest gadgets and technology but that will not help you if your overhead is 80-90%. While you may be astounded by this figure that I just threw out, there are practices who have this statistic and each month is a struggle to meet payroll and pay the bills. Is this the type of stress you want to deal with?
Listen in on my conversation with Dr. Farran to find out our thoughts about this.
Dr. Farran has paved the path for all of us by using the power of the internet and social media to grow our practices and to make ourselves better dentists.
That is one of the reasons why I started Nifty Thrifty Dentists. I wanted a forum where dentists can find great deals on dental products and services but also where dentists can learn from each other. Yes, we all are looking for patients and want to increase our revenues but that should not preclude us from helping each other. There is enough dentistry for everyone.
I end with a quote from Adam Grant, well known professor and author, “The most meaningful way to succeed is to help others succeed.”
