When you’re thinking about going Nifty Thrifty in your Dental practice, you have to look to Ebay for some of your supply needs. Now with any shopping site, there are deals and there are “nifty thrifty” deals. Luckily for you, I have a few recommendations on Ebay dental equipment/supplies as well as recommendations from members of our Nifty Thrifty Dentists Facebook group.
The Kona Adapter
If you have an isolite or a dryshield then this is a “no-brainer.” The Kona Adapter works with all the isolite and dryshield mouthpieces and is a fraction of the price of a new unit. I would recommend having at least one actual isolite/dryshiled unit and using the Kona Adapter for all your other operatories.

Dental Models
Most patients are visual learners and having dental models to educate them is crucial to case acceptance. This is where you can be extremely thrifty because these models are not going into anyone’s mouth. Or at least not intentionally. Whether you need a simple typodont or a more detailed model to show different types of treatment, Ebay is the thrifty choice. Here are the more popular models on Ebay.

Curing Lights
Ebay curing lights have been a huge source of controversy among Dentists for years. While not all curing lights are made the same, there are a handful of Ebay curing lights that work just was well as their more expensive counterparts. My suggestion is to always check your Ebay curing light with a “curing light tester.” I included the link to a very reputable US company that sells the tester as well as the Ebay curing lights.

Dental Cassettes
Do you like the neatness and organization of Hu Friedy style cassettes but not like their prices. Check out the Dental cassettes on Ebay. These cassettes are so cheap that you can afford to buy extra ones just in case they fall apart.

Dental Lab Motor
If you do a lot of Dentures in your practice, you know how valuable a Dental motor can be. Also, dental lab motors go through a lot of abuse and they will wear out over time. With that being said, don’t spend a fortune on a lab motor from the supply companies. Instead, buy a few of the Ebay lab motors and swap them out when they break down. I also included lab burs as well.

Crown Removing Forceps
We all know how annoying it is to remove temps or crowns during try-ins. Hemostats work best during temp and crown removal but they can get a bit pricey. Here’s a great instrument on Ebay recommended by one of our Facebook group members.
