Screencast-O-Matic is a great tool for recording screenshots and sharing them with your team members. For a Dental practice, the main purpose would be the creation of tutorial videos. In our practice, I have tutorial videos for our practice management and imaging software. Just imagine if you had tutorial videos available for new and existing team members so that you don’t have to repeat yourself over and over.
With just a few clicks, you can start recording your screen, and once you’re satisfied with your video, you can upload it directly from there. Your recordings are made on your local computer and is not uploaded unless you choose to upload. You can make up to 15 min recordings with the free version of this software program.
Yes, you read that correctly. Screencast-O-Matic is free!
This program is definitely one of the easiest programs to use and the quality of the video is amazing especially for a free program. As mentioned previously, with the free version you can record up to 15 minutes at a time so it works really well for tutorial videos. If you have to record something longer than 15 minutes then record your tutorials into separate parts or files. This program is available for Windows and Mac and you can run it directly from their web page.
If you opt to do the paid version then the investment is very small. For 15 dollars annually, you’ll get the following features:
Pro Features:
– No watermark
– Make longer recordings
– Record Computer Audio (Windows Only)
– Edit tools
– Scripted Recordings
– Draw and zoom
– Publish to Google Drive, Vimeo Pro, Dropbox
– Screenshot Tool
For my practice, I definitely will plan on upgrading to the $15 Pro Plan. At the price point of a few lattes, it’s a no-brainer and I’ll be able to use the additional features to create awesome tutorials.
Screencast-O-Matic is definitely the Thrifty way to create tutorials and to train staff members. As always, you can always e-mail me if you have any questions or comments.
Till next time,
Dr. Glenn Vo
