Using Voice Skills in Dentistry

Alexa Voice skills for Dentistry

One of the fastest-growing sectors of technology is the use of AI in assisting us with our daily activities. Apple introduced us to Siri and then Amazon brought this into our homes with Alexa and then Google followed suit. How many times have we heard, “Alexa….” and trust me, we’re going to be hearing more of “hey Google” and other iterations of this in the future.

But this technology is not just for residential use. It has expanded into the business world. Dr. Chithra Durgram has leveraged this technology in her own practice. She recently came on and to talk to us about how she did it and how we can bring increased productivity and efficiency into our practices with Alexa and other voice-assisted AI.

Dr. Chithra Durgam used her expertise and created her own special voice-activated skill called “Dr. Durgam” where she is interacting with people in various ways such as:

  •  FAQs
  •  Practice info
  • Q&A
  • Sharing photos

Create your Alexa skills

Voice is a great technology that can help us connect with people. Even in the field of dentistry, it has a huge scope. Dr. Chithra Durgam shares the example of a special voice skill called “Chompers” that can teach children to brush their teeth. By making it kid-friendly, kids are more willing to brush. Similarly, the dentist can utilize Amazon voice skills in various forms to benefit their practice.

As a dentist, you can create your skills that will share the information shared with your patients such as:

  1.       Letting prospective patients know about the services you are offering, the location of your clinic, and other information that will bring patients to you.
  2.       Keep pertinent practice information updated and sharing this information in the form of audio voice, photos, and videos.
  3.       Teaching patients about different dental problems can help them recognize potential dental issues and educating them to maintain good oral health
  4.       Create skills for the practice that will share post-operative instructions with patients. Even if patients lose their written instructions, they can easily access them using voice.

Patients will appreciate being able to access your information easily and at their convenience. Instead of fumbling around looking for information, they can just “ask” Alexa at home or even in the car! You’re bringing the best of technology to your patients.

Voice assistance is the future

It seems like every day I see new products that are voice-assisted enabled. Our homes are truly becoming smart homes with fridges, washers, and lights just to name a few items that we can control just by calling out a name! Now is the time for dentists to get in on this new way to market to patients and also to educate them.

Isn’t technology amazing?! We’re lucky to have an expert like Dr. Chithra Dugram in our group to help us successfully implement this technology in our practices!
